Their areas of focus are Leith and North Edinburgh and the ambition is to provide affordable, high quality communities that are well connected, mixed and sustainable.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Responding to the housing shortage<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Earlier in the year POLHA confirmed plans to build 850 new homes over the next five years, 370 more than originally anticipated. This significant boost in house building is made possible by increased funding from government and long term private funding. A total of \u00a389 million is to be invested by POLHA to build new homes, with further \u00a37m to improve the quality of the existing ones between 2015 and 2020.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Making Leith a better place to live<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>With the financial support from the City of Edinburgh Council, who provided Housing Association Grant worth over \u00a36 million, POLHA has acquired land in Granton with the view to deliver mixed social and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/mid-market\/\">mid market<\/a> housing. This 2.1 hectare plot on West Harbour Road will see 302 new affordable homes being built in the next five years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/a-guide-to-purchasing-your-second-home\/edin-image\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6233\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Edin-Image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Edin-Image.png 940w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Edin-Image-700x587.png 700w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Edin-Image-400x335.png 400w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Edin-Image-768x644.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nKeith Anderson, chief executive at POLHA, said: \u201cThis is an important step towards making Leith an even better place for people to live, visit and do business. We\u2019re excited to be working with the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government to meet demand for good quality, affordable homes in North Edinburgh and to play a part in the ambitious regeneration plans for Granton Harbour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0spokesperson for the City of Edinburgh Council commented: &#8220;This significant new development at Granton Harbour is a great example of how the council and our housing association partners are delivering on the joint commitment to build 16,000 new affordable homes in Edinburgh over the next 10 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t think of a better use for the site than providing much needed affordable housing for local people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/mobile\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2791\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png\" alt=\"latest-apps\" width=\"618\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png 618w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps-400x55.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Part of the Granton Harbour masterplan<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The new development will form part of an ambitious masterplan to transform Granton Waterfront, once an area of gas works and industrial storage, into a new vibrant community with all the amenities. This \u00a30.5 billion regeneration plan will bring 2,000 new homes to the area and will feature Edinburgh\u2019s new marina as well as a healthcare centre, a retirement living complex, parks, shops, restaurants, offices, a conference centre and a hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Fawcett from Granton Central Developments\u00a0commented: \u201cThis proposed development\u00a0will add further impetus to the regeneration of Granton Harbour which is soon to become Edinburgh\u2019s new marina. The environment where homes are built is as important as the quality of the buildings and in both respects the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/letting-agents-edinburgh\/port-of-leith-housing-association\/\">Port of Leith Housing Association<\/a> have the boxes ticked.
