All 31 of Them."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Home is where the heart is&#8217;&#8230; or so we would like to think\u2026 however, for this poor prospective tenant, the property she was viewing had similar appeal and offerings as a stay at HMP.<\/p>\n<p>It would be normal to expect a certain amount of reasonable, informal house rules when choosing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/flatshare\/\">rent a room<\/a> within someone\u2019s house. What you wouldn\u2019t perhaps expect is a document with 31 detailed stipulations handed to you during the viewing! Breaking any of the rules would lead to a fine (amount decided by the landlord), or possible eviction.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/excessive-house-rules-for-tenant\/rules\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7548\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules.png 1920w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules-700x467.png 700w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules-1100x733.png 1100w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules-400x267.png 400w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/rules-1536x1024.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Laura Evelyn, an actress and proof-reader from London, was presented with the set of rules which included time restrictions on certain activities such as showers, which must be between the times of 6am and 10am or 7pm and 11pm and not for any longer than 15 minutes. Cooking must not exceed 30 minutes in the kitchen (doors were to be kept open during cooking or a fine would be added to that month\u2019s rent). Pork was banned completely. Dishes left in the sink would receive a flat fine of \u00a315.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Two visitors per month\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The rules extended into friends or family visiting: \u201cNo visitors can stay over (unless discussed with me 2 weeks in advance and I will decide)\u201d and visits were restricted to two per month. Any \u201cnoisy or rude people will get one chance to calm down\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The landlord made his opinions clear on anything within the property being abused, including the use of cleaning products: \u201cThis will be deducted and added to next month\u2019s rent and failing to pay will result in vacating premises immediately\u201d.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/mobile\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2791\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png\" alt=\"latest-apps\" width=\"618\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png 618w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps-400x55.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With regard to keeping the property clean, the landlord stated: \u201cIf you do NOT clean after yourself I will pay for a cleaner and she charges \u00a315ph and I will get her in 2 hours a week and charge you at the end of the month, failing to pay will result in vacating the premises immediately\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the landlord concluded the document stating: \u201cHope you enjoy your read and enjoy your stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Laura Evelyn chose not to live in that particular property.<\/p>\n<p>Have you had any similar experiences yourself?
