{"id":4365,"date":"2019-03-21T11:18:20","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T11:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/?p=4365"},"modified":"2020-12-18T11:18:36","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T11:18:36","slug":"owning-property-isnt-for-everyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/owning-property-isnt-for-everyone\/","title":{"rendered":"Owning Property Isn\u2019t for Everyone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study has revealed that more than half of tenants in the UK are happy renting, with 35% stating they have no plans to ever buy a property.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 2,000 respondents paying on average \u00a3650 in rent per calendar month, 43% have been renting for 6 to 10 years and further 15% for 11 to 15 years.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Forever renting<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Those opting for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/10-reasons-to-rent-a-house-before-buying-it-in-your-20s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">renting<\/a> for life, cited flexibility of moving home freely as the top reason (37%), followed by affordability due to high property prices (27%).<\/p>\n<p>Some 14% of tenants appreciated the fact that they didn\u2019t have to worry about repairs, with further 9% not wanting to commit to living anywhere permanently. For 6% of British tenants, buying a property was simply too stressful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/owning-property-isnt-for-everyone\/keys-in-the-door\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4368\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4368\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/keys-in-the-door.jpg\" alt=\"keys-in-the-door\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/keys-in-the-door.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/keys-in-the-door-700x467.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/keys-in-the-door-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/keys-in-the-door-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tara Hall, spokesperson for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hillarys.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hillarys<\/a>, home interiors specialist who conducted the study, commented: \u201cWe hear so much about how more people have to rent long term because they can\u2019t get on the property ladder.\u00a0It\u2019s interesting to see how many are actually happy with this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOwning a property isn\u2019t for everyone, especially if you like not being tied down or don\u2019t want to spend months and months saving for huge deposits.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Higher tenant expectations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Tenants willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/renting-in-it-for-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rent for life<\/a> are expecting more rights in return though.<\/p>\n<p>According to the research, 97% of respondents believe that the tenants\u2019 rights could be improved.<\/p>\n<p>Some 91% of renters would like to see changes preventing landlords from evicting tenants unless they break the law and if eviction is unavoidable, 89% believe landlords should be made to give at least 6 month\u2019s prior notice.<\/p>\n<p>Further 63% thought they should be offered first right of refusal if a landlord decided to sell their property.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/mobile\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2791\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png\" alt=\"latest-apps\" width=\"618\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png 618w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps-400x55.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study has revealed that more than half of tenants in the UK are happy renting, with 35% stating they have no plans to ever buy a property.
