Glasgow\u2019s East End neighbourhood has made the top 10 coolest in the world in an annual survey conducted by Time Out.<\/p>\n

The survey of over 38,000 residents of cities across the globe, asked the respondents where they most loved spending time around their city and a list of 40 coolest neighbourhoods in the world was compiled, taking into account food, drink, nightlife, independent culture and community spirit.<\/p>\n

Dennistoun came eighth on the list and was the only UK neighbourhood which made the top 20, with Dublin\u2019s Phibsboro ranked 27th <\/sup>and London\u2019s Soho 31st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Dennistoun was a historically working-class neighbourhood, however, an influx of students have altered the demographic in the past decade. Described now as a \u201csecluded island in Glasgow\u2019s East End\u201d with \u201csense of independence unlike any other corner of this city\u201d, Dennistoun was praised for community initiatives such as the Zero Waste Market (a refill grocery shop which prepared food boxes in lockdown) and Alexandra Park\u2019s Food Forest, as well as abundant coffee shops, pubs and an art gallery.<\/p>\n

  7. Shaanxi Bei Lu\/Kangding Lu, Shanghai<\/li>\n
  8. Dennistoun, Glasgow<\/li>\n
  9. Haut-Marais, Paris<\/li>\n
  10. Marrickville, Sydney<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Commenting on the survey\u2019s results, James Manning, International Editor of Time Out, said: \u201cGlasgow is a fantastic city with cutting-edge culture and nightlife, and right now Dennistoun is at the cutting edge of the city\u2019s cool, with independents popping up and artists brightening up the winding streets.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWe were really blown away by the amazing initiatives that businesses and locals started at the beginning of the pandemic \u2013 it showed there was real heart in the neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He continued: \u201cWith global travel in disarray, this year our annual list of the world\u2019s coolest neighbourhoods is less about planning your next trip and more about celebrating the hotspots that are pointing the way forward for city life.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIn tough times, neighbourhoods are more important than ever \u2013 and these are places where the soul of the city is on full display, thanks to independent businesses, local culture and community initiatives.<\/p>\n
