{"id":5568,"date":"2021-01-15T09:28:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T09:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/?p=5568"},"modified":"2021-01-15T09:28:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T09:28:20","slug":"eviction-ban-in-scotland-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/eviction-ban-in-scotland-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"Eviction Ban in Scotland Extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of last year the Scottish Government introduced a temporary ban on evictions between 11<sup>th<\/sup> December 2020 and 22<sup>nd<\/sup> January 2021. However, due to a surge in COVID-19 case, the eviction ban has now been extended.<\/p>\n<p>To stop people from needing to find a new home or move in with a different household, the Scottish Government has decided to extend the regulations which prevent bailiffs from enforcing eviction notices until 31<sup>st<\/sup> March.<\/p>\n<p>The ban on evictions applies to all areas subject to Tier 3 and 4 restrictions, which currently is the whole of Scotland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/eviction-ban-in-scotland-extended\/scottish-parliament-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5570\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"836\" height=\"627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament-700x525.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament-1100x825.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Scottish-Parliament-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the news, Scottish Housing Minister, Kevin Stewart said that extending the ban on the enforcement of eviction orders in the private and social rented sectors \u201cwill support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/tenants-can-now-apply-for-interest-free-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tenants<\/a> and offer people protection from transmission of the virus by being able to stay safe in their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIt will also prevent additional burdens being placed on health and housing services during a time where they are already working hard due to the impact of the pandemic. This is a proportionate response to an extremely challenging set of circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Exemptions from eviction ban<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It is important to stress, that in any cases of criminal or serious anti-social behaviour, including domestic abuse, eviction notices can still be enforced.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment noopener wp-att-2791 noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2791\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png\" alt=\"latest-apps\" width=\"618\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps.png 618w, https:\/\/www.citylets.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/latest-apps-400x55.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfha.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish Federation of Housing Associations<\/a>, Sally Thomas, said: \u201cWe are pleased that the government has kept the exemptions in place for such incidences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is absolutely the right thing to do that we look after people\u2019s health and well-being and we protect tenants who are struggling to pay their rent as a result of the financial effects of COVID-19, but it is of paramount importance that our members can act when there are cases of serious anti-social or criminal behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The eviction ban is subject to review every three weeks to ensure it remains necessary to protect the public against the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of last year the Scottish Government introduced a temporary ban on evictions between 11th December 2020 and 22nd January 2021.
