Partner at Bannatyne, Kirkwood, France & Co (BKF & Co) Rory Cowan, features on episode 55<\/a> of Lets Talk. Rory talks about the history of the company and the services that they specialise in, as well as what led him to focus on practising property law.<\/p>\n

With all the changes in private rented sector legislation due to the pandemic, Rory explains which acts have come into force and which legislation has reverted back or been extended further, as well as what some of these changes mean for notice periods.<\/p>\n

BKF & Co partner also discusses the Coronavirus (Recovery and Reform) (Scotland) Bill 2022<\/a> which is currently going through the Scottish Parliament and explains the key changes that it proposes for the private rented sector (PRS). Rory also shares his views on what it may mean for investment in the sector and other implications such as when a tenanted property is being repossessed by the lender.<\/p>\n

A national system of rent controls<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Part of the Scottish Government\u2019s Housing Strategy 2040 document, is an agreement with the Greens<\/a> to deliver what they call \u2018a new deal for tenants\u2019 as part of the \u2018Rented Sector Strategy.\u2019<\/p>\n

Included in their proposed reforms is to implement a national system of rent controls for the PRS. Rory explains what he believes this will mean for landlords and property investors in the PRS.<\/p>\n

Host, Gillian Semmler asks Rory about advice for landlords experiencing rent arrears; how to serve an eviction notice, recover debt and navigate their way through the Tribunal process. They also talk about the updates to the EPC proposals.<\/p>\n
