With the recent coalition formed by Scottish Land and Estates (SLE), Scottish Association of Landlords and Propertymark, in response to the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection)(Scotland) Act 2022, Lets Talk host, Gillian Semmler, invites SLE\u2019s Policy Advisor for Rural Property, Anna Gardiner, for episode 67<\/a> to discuss the concerns of the legislation on rural communities.<\/p>\n

Anna talks about how Scottish Land and Estates’ vision is to \u2018make a prosperous and sustainable future for rural Scotland, delivering benefits for all\u2019 and how the organisation strives to achieve this. Anna explains how rural private rented tenancies differ from more urban ones and the challenges and additional costs involved for rural landlords. In already challenging times, Anna talks about how the emergency legislation could exacerbate current issues in rural housing, from landlord affordability to the issue of empty homes.<\/p>\n

Concerns for the negative impact on tenants<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Cost of Living (Tenant Protection)(Scotland) Act 2022 was introduced to protect tenants, however, Anna explains how she fears it will have serious ramifications on not just landowners but tenants themselves.<\/p>\n

Anna also talks about her background and how her previous roles have provided her with the perfect experience to fulfil the varied and demanding role of Policy Advisor for Rural Property in Scotland.<\/p>\n
