Lets Talk\u2019s 76th<\/sup> episode features CEO of the Association of Scotland\u2019s Self-Caterers (ASSC), Fiona Campbell.<\/p>\n

With the impending date of the 1st<\/sup> October drawing closer, Lets Talk host, Gillian Semmler, talks to Fiona about the serious concerns of the measures introduced by the Scottish Government to regulate the short-term lettings industry.<\/p>\n

They talk about the aims of the legislation, timings and the main changes that are proposed, along with any short term let scenarios that will be excluded from the licensing.<\/p>\n

Gillian asks Fiona about whether the unlawful ruling of the rebuttal presumption within the City of Edinburgh Council\u2019s proposal will change the way in which the licensing progresses for Edinburgh and other authorities. In addition, Fiona discusses how the legalisation may also be in breach of the European Convention of Human Rights, data protection and privacy laws.<\/p>\n

Red flags<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Scottish Housing Minister, Paul McLennan, requested Fiona and other industry representatives, to inform him of their concerns regarding the licensing for their sector. Fiona talks about the 14 red flags they raised, as well as suggested solutions to the MSP, and Gillian asks about his reaction to these.<\/p>\n

Fiona also shares the amount of ASSC members that have actually applied for a license, compared to the Scottish Governments\u2019 claim of \u2018many providers\u2019 having received their license.<\/p>\n

Fiona and Gillian discuss further unintended consequences of the new short-term licensing including the ramifications on employment, the Scottish economy and the housing market as a whole.<\/p>\n
