Why\u00a0Propertymark\u2019s\u00a0Scottish lettings membership figures have increased by 18% since 2023<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Across Scotland, Propertymark has\u00a0witnessed\u00a0an 18 per cent increase in membership numbers of its \u2018Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA)\u2019 division since January 2023, and an overall 10 per cent increase in membership across the nation in the same timeframe.<\/p>\n

For example,\u00a0the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) (Scotland) Act<\/a>\u00a0was enacted on 28 October 2022 after receiving Royal Assent the day before. This law capped mid-tenancy rent increases at 6 per cent from 1 April 2023.<\/p>\n

Following the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) (Scotland) Act\u2019s end on 31 March 2024,\u00a0the Housing (Scotland) Act then passed in 2025<\/a>\u00a0which provides a framework for Scottish Ministers and local councils to\u00a0designate\u00a0\u2018Rent Control Areas\u2019 that limit how much landlords can increase rents by.<\/p>\n

Although letting agents have been legally obligated to hold a minimum\u00a0Level 6 Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)<\/a>\u00a0qualification that ensures they have the necessary skills and knowledge to handle rental properties since 2014, many letting professionals feel the benefits of Propertymark representing and engaging with\u00a0different\u00a0governments throughout the UK\u00a0regarding housing by providing a key bridge between agency and those responsible for legislation.<\/p>\n
