Living in Jordanhill

One of the more affluent areas in the city, Jordanhill is a highly desirable neighbourhood that has something for everyone. It offers excellent transport links, plenty of high quality housing options and it's close to a number of green spaces. It's easy to get from just about any West End neighbourhood to the heart of the city by train, and Jordanhill's residents have their own station to make the journey even simpler. Located in Ashwood Gardens just off Crow Road, it offers direct trains to Glasgow Central with journey times of just over ten minutes. The station is located on both the Argyle and North Clyde Lines.

Crow Road forms part of the A739 road, which is a vital north-south thoroughfare for Glasgow residents. To the south of Jordanhill, it incorporates the much-used Clyde Tunnel. The M8 motorway, which offers a speedy journey to Edinburgh as well as important links to the rest of Scotland's motorway network, is to be found to the south and east of Jordanhill.

This area is ideal for the local student community

There are so many cross-sections of people living in Hillhead, Jordanhill, and Partick, including a sizable proportion of students attending the University of Glasgow, whose main campus at Gilmorehill is close by. The students who decide to make their homes in Jordanhill enjoy the local social scene, where there is a lively coffee culture by day and several restaurants and takeaway shops to make use of at night.

If you like to have a broad choice of properties when you look for houses to rent in Glasgow, you will be pleased with the selection that is available in Jordanhill. Many of the options are semi-detached and terraced houses which were built during the early part of the 20th century, and as such they have retained a great deal of character, along with a number of original features.

On the southern edges of Jordanhill lies the highly popular Victoria Park, a 20-hectare oasis that offers a number of activities, including bowls, tennis and basketball. While many people use the park for cycling and jogging, it's worth noting that the local streets provide all the opportunities you need for getting and staying fit. The roads to the south of Jordanhill head east towards the iconic waterfront of the city, and take you past familiar landmarks such as the Riverside Museum, the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre and the SSE Hydro.

This area of Glasgow is something of a haven for sports fans, with a number of high profile venues located within a short distance from Jordanhill. Chief among them is the Scotstoun Stadium, the home of Glasgow Warriors RFC. For football lovers, Rangers and Partick Thistle are both within three miles, while Celtic play their home games just five miles or so from here.

A short walk from the local railway station you'll find the highly rated Jordanhill School. This is an excellent establishment, and it unusually offers education for both primary and secondary age pupils. It's located in Chamberlain Road, close to the Woodland Bowls and Lawn Tennis Club. Saint Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Mitre Road is also a popular choice with parents who are looking for flats to rent in Glasgow.

State of the art medical amenities are all around you

Several excellent healthcare facilities can be found in and around the Jordanhill area. They include the Glasgow West Medical Practice and the Broomhill Practice, both of which are in the south of the neighbourhood. To the north, Anniesland Medical Practice and the Fulton Street Medical Centre are both viable options for those who live nearby.

This area is also well served by hospital facilities should the need arise. The nearest is likely to be Gartnavel General to the east in Great Western Avenue, while others include the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital in Dalnair Street. To the south of the River Clyde, yet within a short distance, you will also find the largest hospital in Scotland, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
