Living in King's Park

One of the most sought after areas of the whole city, King's Park lies to the south of the River Clyde, within easy reach of the centre of the metropolis. It offers local residents a number of high quality amenities, including healthcare facilities, educational establishments, transport links and green spaces. It's also one of those urban neighbourhoods that manage to retain a noticeable village-style atmosphere.

King's Park has its own railway station, located in Menock Road to the south of the district. From here, trains will take you to Glasgow Central in less than 15 minutes. Several more stations can be found nearby, including Croftfoot and Cathcart to the south, Mount Florida to the west and Crosshill to the north. No wonder so many city workers who look for flats to rent in Glasgow choose King's Park.

It's impossible to walk anywhere in the King's Park area without noticing the huge and impressive edifice of Hampden Park, where Scotland's national football team play their home games and the site of the Scottish Football Museum. Anyone who lives locally will be just a short walk from the stadium, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators. It has also hosted concerts by the likes of U2, Rod Stewart and the Rolling Stones.

Of course, there are many more sporting venues in the area, so if you're living in Mount Florida. or King's Park you won't be far from the action. Shawfield Greyhound Stadium is just a mile or two to the north, while cycling fans will be pleased to know the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is just three miles away. The home grounds of Celtic, Rangers and Partick Thistle are all within five miles of the area.

When you're in need of a night out, you don't have to head off to the centre of the city. There are several good restaurants to be found in King's Park, with a number of them located in King's Park Avenue and Ardmay Crescent. You'll also find a great selection of coffee shops, pubs and bars, and if all you want from life is a night in there are plenty of takeaway food outlets in the local area.

Fresh air and open spaces are never far away

There are a number of green spaces in the vicinity, including the park which gives the area its name. King's Park offers a pleasant escape from the city, with attractive meadows, a flower garden, football pitches and plenty of seating. To the south of the neighbourhood lies Linn Park, a larger expanse that plays host to a high quality golf course. To the north, Cathkin Park offers another alternative to the hustle and bustle.

Motorists who seek houses to rent in Glasgow will want to be close to major roads, of course, and King's Park is ideal for driving both into and out of the city. The M74 motorway is just to the north of the area, while the M77 lies to the west. Both of these routes offer a speedy connection with the M8, which heads east to Edinburgh. The main A77 is also within easy reach of King's Park.

The healthcare facilities in this area are excellent, with many local residents receiving treatment and support at the King's Park Surgery in King's Park Avenue. Other options include the Battlefield Surgery and the Mount Florida Medical Centre, both of which are located to the west. To the east, you'll also find the Rutherglen Primary Care Centre.

For more pressing treatment, you'll be able to choose from a number of highly rated hospitals. They include the New Victoria Hospital in Langside, which opened in 2009, and the famous Glasgow Royal Infirmary, which offers more than 1,000 beds and is located close to the iconic Necropolis. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is also within easy reach from King's Park.

As well as the golf course at Linn Park, you'll find a wonderful selection of golfing venues in the southern districts of Glasgow. They include The Williamwood, which is to the south of King's Park, and the nearby Cathkin Braes. To the west, both Pollok and Cowglen Golf Clubs offer a stern test of your skills, and Haggs Castle GC to the north-west is an extremely popular choice.

History and heritage are all around you

Just to the south of King's Park you'll find the highly impressive Holmwood House, a gloriously elaborate villa that was built back in the 1850s. Designed by the legendary architect Alexander ‘Greek' Thomson, it's located in Cathcart and is open to the public. Of course, the simple train journey into the city centre means a day exploring Glasgow's world-class cultural landmarks will be an easy and enjoyable experience.

A walk through the streets of King's Park will show you the various property types which are available here. You'll be able to choose from an eclectic selection of luxurious detached family houses, semi-detached homes from the inter-war years, iconic cottage flats and brand new developments. If you have a firm idea of what you want, the chances are you will find it with relative ease.

King's Park Secondary School, located close to the park itself, is the number one choice for many local parents, while there are alternative options such as Holyrood Secondary in Dixon Road, just to the north of Cathkin Park. Nearby primary schools include King's Park Primary, Croftfoot Primary and St Filan's, which is to be found in Crompton Avenue.

In 2014, this area was named the most desirable in Scotland, after a survey conducted by Royal Mail. Anyone who has lived here for even a few months will not be surprised by this, because it really is a neighbourhood that has something for everyone.
