Living in Mount Vernon

The East End of Glasgow is home to a number of vibrant neighbourhoods which have a plethora of plus points, and Mount Vernon is certainly no exception. This is a location that has all the amenities you'd expect to find in a busy, bustling city, yet it remains within easy reach of the type of countryside in which it's easy to lose yourself for a few hours.

Indeed, a short distance to the north of Mount Vernon lies the Seven Locks Wetland Park, a new open space that offers all the peace and quiet that you can handle. This urban park is home to around 20 square kilometres of natural beauty which is a magnet for the local wildlife. Other local green spaces include Early Braes Park and Sandyhills Park.

Plenty of people who live in this area need to commute into the centre of the city on a daily basis, and they can do so with ease from here. Mount Vernon has its own railway station, located on the A74 road just south of Mount Vernon Park. It offers direct trains to Glasgow Central throughout the day, with journey times of around 16 minutes.

Anyone who's living in Baillieston or Mount Vernon is also ideally located for a number of important road routes. Just to the south you'll find the M74 motorway, which links with the M73 and, to the west, the M77. To the north of Mount Vernon lies the M8, which offers speedy routes to the city centre to the west and, crucially for many people, the city of Edinburgh to the east.

Excellent schools are never far away

Mount Vernon Primary School, which is located in Penryn Gardens, is popular with parents who seek houses to rent in Glasgow. There are also plenty of options in the area for families with older children. St Andrews RC Secondary is within easy reach in Torphin Crescent, while another popular choice is Smithycroft Secondary School in Smithycroft Road.

While many of the streets in Mount Vernon are relatively quiet, you'll find plenty of pubs and restaurants when you're in need of a night out, as well as a number of shops for those occasions when you need some retail therapy. The majority of these establishments can be found close to the junction of Baillieston Road, the main A89, and Mount Vernon Avenue.

People who are on the lookout for flats to rent in Glasgow will want to know about the local healthcare facilities, and there are some excellent amenities to be found here. Both Baillieston Health Centre and the Cairns Medical Practice are within easy reach. If you're in need of more urgent care, nearby hospitals include Lightburn to the north-west and, a little further away, Stobhill Hospital.
