Living in Broomhill

The West End of Glasgow is a popular location for all, because it's close to the city centre and the university, and it offers a comprehensive selection of housing options ranging from cosy apartments to large detached houses. In many ways, Broomhill is the archetypal West End neighbourhood, so it comes as no surprise to hear that properties in this area are always in great demand.

While Broomhill doesn't have its own railway station, there are several in the vicinity for locals to use. They include Jordanhill, Hyndland and Partick, all of which provide easy, fast access into the centre of the city and beyond. It's worth noting that Glasgow's excellent Subway network can be found close by at both Partick and Kelvinhall to the east and, to the south, Govan.

There are of course plenty of houses to rent in Glasgow, but those in Broomhill offer motorists an opportunity to get to the heart of the city with ease. Dumbarton Road leads on to Argyle Street, while driving south on the A739 will take you through the Clyde Tunnel and on towards the M8 motorway. From here, access to Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland is easy.

Many of the rented properties in and around the Broomhill area are occupied by students who attend the University of Glasgow. There are around 26,000 students enrolled here, and the main campus at Gilmorehill is less than two miles away. It should be noted that the period leading up to the start of the academic year is a particularly busy one in the housing sector.

Top of the range retail therapy for all

There are a number of excellent shops available for anyone who's living in Jordanhill, Hyndland and Broomhill, so retail therapy is always a pleasure in this area. In addition to local shopping, the centre of Glasgow is within easy reach, and that means you're not far away from some of the world's most famous designer labels and a wide selection of celebrated stores.

If you like to stop awhile and smell the coffee every once in a while, you'll be pleased to know that Broomhill is home to several cafés and coffee shops, as well as a great range of pubs and restaurants. The majority of these can be found along Crow Road and Broomhill Drive, although you will also find some to the south of the neighbourhood in Dumbarton Road, close to the River Clyde.

Football fans will be delighted to know that various football grounds are within easy reach. Ibrox Stadium, the home of Rangers FC, is less than two miles from here, while Partick Thistle FC is also around two miles away. Around five miles to the east you'll find Celtic Park, while the Scottish national team play at Hampden Park, just five miles to the south.

If you would rather take part in sports, you'll find several gyms and health clubs in the local area. In Crow Road, Broomhill Lawn Tennis and Squash Club offers an opportunity to enjoy a little healthy competition, while there are some excellent jogging and cycling routes to be enjoyed in and around Victoria Park, which is located to the west of the neighbourhood.

Highly rated schools for pupils of all ages

There are several flats to rent in Glasgow which are close to schools, and as such they will prove to be popular with parents of young children. To the west of the neighbourhood, Jordanhill Primary School is another good choice.

For older pupils, there are a number of highly rated secondary schools to be found here. They include Hyndland Secondary, which has recently been refurbished, and St Thomas Aquinas School, which is in Mitre Road in nearby Jordanhill. The highly respected High School of Glasgow, located to the west of the A739 road, is also a popular choice.

Scotland's largest and busiest city is home to a huge range of tourist attractions and cultural landmarks, and they are all within easy reach of those who live in Broomhill. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland, is less than two miles away, and the highly popular Riverside Museum is within walking distance of homes in the southern part of Broomhill.

While those who seek some peace and quiet will no doubt gravitate towards Victoria Park, there are several more green spaces to be found in the area. To the south of Broomhill, Govan's Elder Park offers some well-deserved tranquillity, while the magnificent Kelvingrove Park is within easy reach. Glasgow Botanic Gardens is to the east, and it's perfect for summer afternoons.
