Living in Dalmarnock

A number of neighbourhoods in Glasgow offer a pleasant way of life and, crucially, easy and convenient links to the city centre, and Dalmarnock is no exception. The site of the athletes' village during the 2014 Commonwealth Games, it nestles comfortably close to a bend of the River Clyde that's known as the Cuningar Loop, although the locals refer to the area as ‘The Valleys'.

If you're looking for houses to rent in Glasgow which are ideal for commuters, Dalmarnock deserves to be close to the top of your personal wish-list. Dalmarnock has its own railway station, which is to be found at Swanston Street close to the Esso service station. Trains from here can be at Glasgow Central in as little as seven minutes.

To the north of Dalmarnock you'll find the main A74 road, which gives drivers an easy route into the centre of the city to the west. To the east, the road links up with the M74 motorway, which offers speedy links to the south of Scotland and into northern England. It also connects with the M8, the main west-east route from Glasgow and on towards Edinburgh.

The fact that Dalmarnock is less than 20 minutes by car from the main campus of the University of Glasgow means the neighbourhood can be ideal for the local student community. In some cases, property rental prices are often lower than in those areas which lie adjacent to the university, so students who are on a budget will be well advised to consider this location.

Take me out to the ball game...

If you're a football fan, especially one who follows the green half of the city, you'll be pleased to know that Celtic Park is close by. The stadium, which holds around 60,000 spectators is in Parkhead, while Ibrox, the home of Rangers, is around four miles away. Partick Thistle play their home games around five miles from Dalmarnock. Hampden Park, where Scotland's national team plays, is just two miles away to the south.

Closer to home is the superb Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, which is perfect for locally-based devotees of cycling. It's located in Dalmarnock itself, in London Road, and it's able to accommodate up to 5,000 spectators. If you prefer your sport to be a little more on the aquatic side, the excellent Tollcross International Swimming Centre is just two miles to east.

Glasgow is rightly known for the plethora of green spaces which are available to residents and visitors. Anyone who's living in Dennistoun, Dalmarnock or anywhere else in this pleasant area of the city will no doubt already be aware of the tranquillity that can be enjoyed in locations like Richmond Park, Glasgow Green and, on the southern bend of the Clyde, Cuningar Woodland Park.
